ECOWEEK is an independent non-governmental organisation (NGO) with international activity. Its mission is to raise public environmental awareness and involvement of the public and especially young people, in environmental protection,"green" building and initiating activities that promote the principles of Worth-Living Integrated Development.
ECOWEEK started its activity on the Greek isle of Aegina in 2005. Today, it is active in Greece and abroad. ECOWEEK hosted lectures by British environmentalist Robert Swan and former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore in Athens in 2007.
In 2007, ECOWEEK spread its wings throughout Greece and in 2008 expanded its activities to Cyprus and Israel. ECOWEEK's future plans include partnerships in Botswana and Guatemala, programmes in Brussels, London and New York, and organising the ECOWEEK Conference 2010 in Athens, May 13-20.
ECOWEEK's founder and Chair is Yale graduate, Ford Fellow, architect and environmental consultant Dr. Elias Messinas.
