General
The Global Compact Network Hellas was launched on May 28, 2008 during an event organized by the Hellenic Network for Corporate Social Responsibility and the UNDP Programme Management Office in Athens. During this official launch event, 50 Greek companies handed over a letter -- addressed to H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations Secretary-General -- to Mr. Søren Mandrup Petersen, Head of Networks & Global Compact Partnerships at the United Nations Global Compact, with which they commit themselves in keeping the ten Global Compact principles during their production procedures and other transactions.
Today its membership consists of just over 80 organisations, enterprises, academia and NGOs.
Objectives of the Network are to:
- promote the UN Global Compact and its principles in Greece
- support businesses, academia and organisations committed to it and in relation with the continuous implementation of its Ten Principles
- disseminate the Ten Principles to the business world
- attract new members
- create opportunities for multistakeholder alliances and collective activities
- support the wider UN goals for the millennium through activities and events related to all stakeholders
