The "Siblings Society of Persons with Mental Health difficulties" was founded in 2008. It is included in the registry of private non-profit organisations that deliver social welfare services. It consists of 100 regular members who all share the same purpose.

In particular, the main aims of KINAPSI (Athens Siblings) are:
  • To support the siblings of persons with mental health difficulties
  • To create information and communication networks for its members
  • To improve the living conditions of patients in public and private psychiatric hospitals and other mental health units
  • To reinforce and support the process of de-institutionalisation in Greece
  • To organise activities that promote mental health
  • To improve and bring change in mental health attitudes in the greek public regarding stigma
KINAPSIS activities for 2011 include:
  • Educational conferences: Speakers with different specialties discuss mental health issues with the public
  • Organisation of private support psychotherapy group exclusively for the siblings of persons with mental health difficulties
  • Events that energise the public around mental health in collaboration with other mental health organisations or local goverment units aiming to promote mental health
  • Mental Health Campaings that inform and educate the siblings and the families of persons with mental health difficulties
  • Mental health advocacy supporting the rights of mental health users, their families and offer practical support to matters of concern to them.
