Thanos Moraitis, Deputy Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change

Thanos Moraitis was born in 1970 and grew up in Agrinio. He studied Economics and Management and at the same time he worked in sales, at first, and then as a business consultant. He became an executive officer of Advertising Firms and he gained many distinctions and awards in the field of advertising. Until 2004, he was running his own advertising firm.

He took political action since his early schooldays. In 1994, he was elected Prefectorial Councillor of Aitoloakarnania. In 2000, he was elected Secretary of PA.SO.K. Youth. During his tenure, PASOK Youth developed action regarding the protection of the environment, volunteerism, human rights and the struggle against racism and social exclusion. Memorable achievement has been the organization of the Open Congress as well as the taking of the organization of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) World Festival.

In 2002, he was assigned Vice-Chairman of the Public Gas Corporation (DEPA) Board of Directors at a crucial moment for the development of the company.

Since 1999 he has been elected a member of the Central Committee of PA.SO.K. He took part actively, from responsible positions, in many of the Party's Committees. In June of 1999, he was a candidate member of the European Parliament with PA.SO.K. From May 2008 until October2009 he has been a member of the Political Board of PA.S.O.K. In 2004 he was elected Member of Parliament of Aitoloakarnania with PA.SO.K. and he was re-elected in 2007 and 2009.

In October of 2009, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change by Prime Minister George A. Papandreou.

He is married to dentist Mina Granitsioti, and they have an 8-year-old son, Christos and a 4-year-old daughter, Nantia.
