Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum: Innovation & Collaboration for the Future We Want

From: 28.05.2012 To: 02.06.2012 Share

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, May 28 - June 2, 2012

The United Nations Global Compact will organise the Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum: Innovation & Collaboration for the Future We Want from May 28 - June 2, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro -- held in co-operation with the Rio+20 Secretariat, the UN System and the Global Compact Local Network Brazil.

The objective of the week-long forum is to strengthen the business contribution to sustainable development globally -- seeking to bring greater scale and quality to implementation of corporate sustainability practices, innovation and collaboration.
Rio+20

The 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development - Rio+20 will gather Governments on June 4-6, 2012 to build global consensus for a more sustainable course, in the environmental, social and economic spheres. The conference will focus on two themes: a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication; and the institutional framework for sustainable development.

Business plays a crucial role in this endeavour through corporate sustainability -- defined as a company's delivery of long-term value in financial, social, environmental and ethical terms. With the right incentives, enabling environments and means of implementation, the private sector can make significant contributions to the sustainable development agenda in Rio and beyond. The Forum
The Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum will provide a venue for business, industry and investors to meet with Governments, local authorities, civil society and UN entities -- with over 2,000 participants expected. The week-long Forum will consist of dozens of highly focused workshops and thematic sessions linked to the Rio+20 agenda, including:

Themes
  • Energy and climate
  • Agriculture and food
  • Water
  • Biodiversity
  • Social development
  • Good governance and anti-corruption
  • Urbanisation and cities
  • Finance and responsible investment
  • Education and research
Cross-cutting Topics
  • Partnerships
  • Innovation
  • Transparency and disclosure
  • Supply chain management
Forum events will be hosted and organised by various organisations, including the UN Global Compact; UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes; and other selected partners. The Forum will take place at two locations: Centro de Convenções Sul America and Windsor Atlantica.

Compact for Rio - C4R
On May 30, 2012, Compact for Rio will be hosted by the UN Global Compact. C4R will bring together all Forum participants to distil leading sustainability practices, innovations and collaborations -- and announce new commitments -- across all Forum themes. In addition, C4R will put forward recommendations for Government actions that would help bring greater scale and quality to corporate sustainability globally.

Sponsorship
The UN Global Compact is offering a limited number of sponsorships to cover the cost of the Forum. Summit sponsorship provides the unique opportunity for an organisation to demonstrate commitment to corporate sustainability on a global stage. Sponsorship opportunities will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Read more about sponsorship opportunities.
