EuroCharity in collaboration with AIT (Athens Information Technology), an internationally-renowned, non-profit education and research centre of excellence, are pleased to announce their co-organisation of the Sustainability Forum 2012, a training, networking and professional development event that is scheduled to take place at AIT's state-of-the-art venue in Peania, Athens on October 5.
Internationally-acclaimed speakers and experts will share their hands-on expertise and experience with the delegates of this forthcoming, multi-stakeholder Forum.
The basic goal of this one-day Forum, which will have an educational character and focus on sustainability, is to showcase new prospects in these challenging times. The Forum aims at providing knowledge, developing abilities and exchanging best practices as well as experiences related to sustainability through parallel, expert workshops that focus on:
- Core principles of sustainability
- Green smart cities / Environment
- Green ICT / Footprint
- Communicating sustainability
- Sustainable facilities and infrastructure systems
- Creating a sustainability strategy
- Sustainability reporting assurance
- Calculating and offsetting CO2 emissions
- Sustainability and social media
The Forum is aimed at all professionals involved or interested in sustainability, CSR Practitioners & Managers, HR Managers, PR Specialists, Marketing Managers, environmentalists, investors, third sector leaders, and others. Mrs. Elina Sviklina, GRI's Manager - Report Services, confirmed participation at the Sustainability Forum 2012. Her speech entitled "The future of sustainability reporting" will focus on the developments of the GRI G4 Guidelines, integrated reporting and tools that can help companies in the reporting process (software, Sustainability Disclosure Database, data collection and analyses, etc.). Confirmed workshop tutors also include Derwin Johnson, an independent senior communication consultant with more than 30 years of experience as a journalist, communication executive and educator who has served as U.S. Director of Media and Communications Training for one of the largest global public relations companies and spent seven years at Columbia University as Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Journalism, as well as Dr. Annie Pearce (www.mlsoc.vt.edu/users/apearce), an Associate Professor in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech specialising in sustainable facilities and infrastructure systems. Throughout her career, Annie has worked with practitioners in both public and private sectors to implement sustainability as part of building planning, design, construction, and operations. As a LEED Accredited Professional, Annie brings the latest in green building methods, technologies, and best practices to the classroom. Her specific areas of interest include metrics of sustainability for built facilities, green building materials and systems, cost modeling to support sustainability implementation, and in situ performance of sustainable facility technologies. Along with others in the Myers-Lawson School, Annie is pioneering a new paradigm of construction research, education, and outreach that combines and synergises inputs from stakeholders in the construction industry with new technologies and research efforts to promote sustainable innovations. This educational ecosystem approach builds upon the principles of biomimicry to offer benefits to all entities within the system while tapping the resources they can offer to one another, all while moving the industry toward the goal of greater sustainability.
